Something New

Me being me, the imminent arrival of autumn never means renewing my wardrobe with some beige, black and grey. No. It means an explosion of colour.
What's new:
1) ASOS sweater....in pink. (or is it purple?) With lace heart elbow patches. Cotton. That will do me.
2) Erin Elizabeth stackable bracelets...because I didn't quite master the art of stacking myself so I need a ready made stack.
3) Claudette underwear. One of my favourite brands. This combo comes in grey and pink. With POLKADOTS! It doesn't get better than that.
Also, do checkout their lookbook and a marvelous use of plus size model with proper tits. (By proper I mean big. Bigger than the ones sported by your regular size model in any case.)

Hero Products

This time around my "hero products" all come from the same brand...Dr Organic. You might think this one is a sponsored post, but alas, it isn't. Just really good products I love to use and spend my money on.
The eye serum is my current go to eye cream. It claims to be anti aging and while I don't know if it made my wrinkles better, it certainly didn't make them worse. It also tackles eye puffiness and dark circles and sure enough, I don't appear to have any since using this serum.
Aloe Vera cream, I use in the morning and during the day; it's super hydrating and soothing and as it is concentrated, a little goes a long way.
The STAR product, however, is a snail gel. Yes, SNAIL gel. Don't worry, the gel is not made from snails, but from ethically collected snail mucus. I've been reading about those creams and gels for some time and after initial squeamishness, I decided to buy one and see what all the fuss is about.  The scent is rather pleasant and citrusy and the texture of the gel mildly sticky, but it does absorb into the skin rather quickly. The gel is supposed to be anti aging and while I don't know if I look any younger after using this, I can certainly see a difference in my skin.
I haven't been blessed with porcelain skin and the current state of it is as follows: some acne scarring on cheeks, dry patches, HUGE pores and some discoloration/pigmentation. While I won't make claims that any gel or cream will give you the results that you would get with lasers, botox and fillers, this little gel does actually make some difference. Perhaps  not a huge difference, but certainly a visible one and after using the gel for a few weeks, my skin is both smoother and plumper. It certainly gave me more results than I managed to get from any other topical products so far. I use the gel at night before sleep, let it absorb and if I feel like I need more hydration, follow up with my Aloe Vera day cream. The gel retails at Holland & Barrett at £19.99 for 50ml. To be honest, I would love to immerse my whole body into it all day, every day, but I'm afraid my finances just wouldn't stretch to such an extravaganza.
Your turn now, would you use snail cream?

My Trusty Body Butter

Having tried and loved "My Trusty..." products before I was rather excited when  I got sent their newest product to review: a body butter.
Due to my...ahem...age, the skin on my body (especially the legs) can be quite dry and flaky so I almost exclusively use body butters or body oils. Like most people, I tend to use Body Shop butters as they are the ones that introduced me to that particular concept in the first place.
And if you like their butters, you will love "My Trusty Body Butter" even more. It's incredibly rich and hydrating and a bit more dense than the Body Shop butters. It's scented with neroli, bergamot and orange and it smells truly heavenly.
As with all "My Trusty..." products, this one is also made by Salisbury Hospital NHS Trust and all profits go back towards patient care.
It's also worth saying that the butter is not tested on animals and is paraben, lanolin and colour free.
Downsides? Well, honestly, there aren't any. It is lovely to use and it left my skin very soft and beautifully fragranced. I do hope that they add a few more scent varieties in the future as I can see this being their bestseller.
"My Trusty Body Butter" is available now and it retails at £7.99 (Plus p&p).

Living in a far, faaaaar corner of deepest, darkest  East London has its benefits (Epping Forest, quiet streets, village like atmosphere), but it also has its drawbacks. Namely, not very many decent places to eat. Sure, I can hop on the tube and be in Central London in 20 minutes, but sometimes I just don't feel like it. So thank God for Belgique, a small East London/Essex only chain of Belgian brasseries. I love going there for breakfast, brunch...or just tea and a cake. Their cakes especially are delicious and it's worth mentioning they have a selection of goodies to buy and take home too (biscuit spread, anyone?...yummy). So, if you find yourself in the area, do pay them a visit. Your waist won't thank you for it, but your tastebuds will.

I wore:
Sweater: J.Crew
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff
Jeans: Mango
Sandals: Zara
Bracelet: Fiorelli
Rings: Dogeared; Kris Nations
Necklace: oNecklace

Saturday 16 August 2014

If you've been following this blog for any amount of time, you'll know that I like my food. No matter how hard I try to eat healthy, when faced with anything sweet (or savoury, or sour...or...anything really), my resolve crumbles. So to celebrate my sweet tooth, I'll bring you the ultimate in comfort desserts-RICE PUDDING.
This one has a nice little tropical twist to it, but don't be fooled by all the fruit....this is still as calorific as it gets.

Ingredients:
175g jasmine rice
600ml milk
125 caster sugar
6 cardamom pods (split open)
1 bay leaf
1 cinnamon stick
150ml double cream (lightly whipped)
4-6 passion fruits
berries to decorate

1) Place the jasmine rice in a pot with milk, sugar, cardamom pods, bay leaf and cinnamon stick. Cook, stirring frequently, on low for around half an hour (or until rice is tender and milk absorbed). Add some extra milk if necessary.
2) Leave the rice to cool slightly and remove the bay leaf and cinnamon stick.
3) Fold the cream into the rice mixture.
4) Halve the passion fruits and scoop the insides into a bowl.
5) Layer the rice with the passion fruit in glass bowls, decorate with berries and enjoy.

Monday 11 August 2014

Out of the huge amount of beauty boxes and sample services I used to subscribe to, the one I consistently stayed loyal to is "Latest In Beauty". Their boxes and samples always offered the best value and quality and when they offered me a chance to review their latest box in collaboration with Beauty Bible, I naturally accepted.
"The Beauty Bible Loves" box contains a great selection (£70 worth) of make up, haircare and beauty products, some of which are full size and  the box is available for £19.95 (plus p&p).
The product I'm most excited about is Dr Organic Bio-Plasma Mud Mask. I use quite a few Dr Organic products already (Their snail cream is amazing) and am super happy with them. I'm sure this mud mask won't be an exception. The thing that appeals is that the mask is both anti-aging and purifying which must be a bit of rarity when it comes to mud masks.
Next up is Verbena and Lavender hand cream and I have to be honest and say that I tried many, many hand creams but none came close to good old Neutrogena hand cream. I find it's the only one that makes difference to my hands. However, this cream by Crabtree & Evelyn smells amazing and it's good if you need quickly absorbed hit of hydration for your hands.
Rituals hand scrub looks very interesting. It is something I haven't thought of before, but coming to think about it, it makes sense. You scrub your face, you scrub your body, why not your hands? Now if only it would get rid of the age spots, no one will be a happier bunny in the whole of United Kingdom. :D
Also in the box are John Masters shampoo and detangler. Shampoo smells a bit too "botanical" for my liking, but detangler is lovely. I left it in my hair for an hour and the result was a bouncy, super soft, fragrant barnet.
Merumaya cleansing balm....interesting idea (you clean the skin with the balm and cloth), but the sample is a tiny sachet so not quite enough to give a proper review.
Coconut cleanser is lovely and creamy and it does a pretty good job of taking the make up and grime away from your skin.
The second most exciting product (after Dr Organic mask) are these deodorant wipes, a new concept for me, but I did like the practicality and ease of use as well as the fact that they are natural (made from mineral salts). They seemed to work just fine during a regular day. You would probably need something stronger for very hot days and days when you're doing sports, though.
Last but not least in the box is a black volumizing mascara from Bellapierre cosmetics.  It's free from parabens and it gives you mega lashes which means the mascara ticks all my boxes.
The box is available to buy now at: Latest In Beauty.

1 White Tee, 5 Ways To Wear It

A humble white t-shirt. Surely, the most versatile of items. You can dress it up or down, wear it with skirts, jeans, shorts or gym wear and it works well both in the summer as well as the winter. My favourite one is this loose, cotton tee from POP Cph. It has a tiniest bit of stretch and  it falls beautifully. I wear it a lot,  most recently with this powder pink skirt from ASOS.

I wore:
T-shirt: POP Cph
Skirt: ASOS
Sandals: Sol Sana
Clutch: Accessorize

And a few of the previous incarnations:

Jean Paul Gaultier

I had the honour of photographing the one and only Jean Paul Gaultier back in April. The photos were taken for a Croatian magazine and to coincide with the opening of his exhibition at London's Barbican centre. Monsieur Gaultier is charming and very, very funny and I loved both him and the exhibition. If you happen to be in London this month, the event runs till 25th August and it's well worth seeing.
More details here.
